Suspect arrested in fatal weekend stabbing

A suspect has been arrested in a fatal stabbing during a fight Sunday in the east valley, according to Metro Police.

Juan Rubio, 42, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on Tuesday on a count of first-degree murder, police said.

Officers were dispatched Sunday to University Medical Center, where 31-year-old Michael William Omalia was in critical condition, police said. Omalia, who was taken to the hospital by a friend, died a short time later, police said.

Investigators determined Omalia and another man were in a fight about 4:45 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of Sir Phillip Street, near Charleston and Nellis boulevards, police said. Omalia died of multiple stab wounds, the Clark County Coroner’s Office said.

Details about the arrest or what led to the fight were not immediately available.
