Football: There is no close second

Las Vegas Sun sports editors Ray Brewer and Case Keefer ring in the start of football season by discussing some of the valley's top storylines and teams, like Bishop Gorman, Liberty, Arbor View and Desert Pines.

Devin Gaddy caught a 65-yard touchdown pass from Santiago Vialpando on the Chaparral High football team’s first play today against visiting Bonanza in a 44-22 victory.

Gaddy had a pair of touchdown receptions and Jacob Ford rushed for two touchdowns, helping the Cowboys build a double-digit lead in the first quarter.

“Our kids still have a lot of work to do,” Cowboys coach Paul Nihipali said. “We had a sloppy and slow first half.”

Ford led Chaparral in rushing.

“He was our workhorse,” Nihipali said.

Kentrell Petite added a touchdown for the Cowboys. He would have had another but dropped the ball before crossing the endzone, Nihipali said.
