Hiker killed in fall at Red Rock Canyon identified

Updated Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 | 2:34 p.m.

A Las Vegas hiker who died after falling about 15 stories at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area has been identified as Justin William Manering.

Manering, 31, died from blunt-force head trauma, and his death was accidental, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Manering had been with a group before he fell about 160 feet from a trail Thursday, Metro Police Lt. Timothy Hatchett said. Search-and-rescue crews responded and were unable to resuscitate Manering, who died at the scene.

It is unclear which trail he had been on. It also is unclear what caused the fall.
