Man found dead in car in North Las Vegas identified

Updated Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 | 7:45 p.m.

The man whose body was found inside a parked car Thursday evening in North Las Vegas has been identified as 24-year-old Brandon Sumerlin.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified Sumerlin, but his cause and manner of death had not been determined Friday.

The police investigation is ongoing as there were no obvious signs on how he died, spokeswoman Officer Ann Cavaricci said Friday night.

Sumerlin's sister, who was cited on missingpersonsofamerica.com, said he went missing last Friday night after he said he was going to a convenience store to buy snacks.

A Facebook post from his sister apparently shows images from store security footage, in which Sumerlin is seen leaving with purchased items.

"He left his phone and his vape at home, so he was planning to come back!" according to the post.

A family member found Sumerlin's body in his parked Subaru Legacy in the 3700 block of West Craig Road, near Allen Lane, shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday, Cavaricci said. The car was connected to a missing-person case, she added.

The Subaru, which was found in a business parking lot about half a mile from the convenience store Sumerlin had visited, appears to be the same one family spread photos of on social media.

He appeared to have been dead for some time, Cavaricci said.
