Updated Friday, Aug. 26, 2016 | 1:27 a.m.

A shooting involving a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper left a suspect dead early Friday morning, according to officials.

The trooper was "struck but uninjured," Metro Police Lt. Charles Jenkins said. The incident shut down Boulder Highway from U.S. 95 to Lamb Boulevard.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada announced shortly before 1 a.m. that police activity had shut down the road.

NHP could not immediately be reached for comment, and further details were not available early Friday.

Drivers should avoid the area.
