The Del Sol High football team dressed just 22 players today against Western, holding out eight expected starters who were delayed in turning in their athletic packets.
Thankfully for the Dragons, Taariq Flowers played. Flowers rushed for more than 100 yards and three touchdowns in a 24-12 victory.
“There were some kids who played more today than their entire three years in the program,” Del Sol coach Gary Maki said. “One kid started and played both ways. He played every down.”
When Flowers wasn’t rushing the ball, Titan Williams got into the action. Williams scored the Dragons’ fourth touchdown.
“Flowers was our workhorse,” Maki said.
Western hasn’t won since 2011, but Maki was impressed with the Warriors’ effort.
“That’s a scrappy bunch,” he said. “They’re going to beat somebody this year if they keep playing like that.”
