A man is dead this morning after being struck by a vehicle as he was attempting to cross southbound Interstate 15 near the Strip.

About 7:50 a.m., the man was crossing the freeway from east to west, near Flamingo Road, when he was hit by a blue Toyota Camry, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said. It is unclear at this time why he was crossing the freeway, she said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Camry was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with minor injuries.

The southbound lanes of I-15 were closed at Flamingo and traffic was redirected to Spring Mountain Road following the incident, but as of 12:30 p.m.
