Nevada Rep. Cresent Hardy is in the hospital after suffering a minor heart attack, his office said this evening.
The Republican congressman underwent a routine medical procedure after the attack and remains hospitalized.
A spokesman said that Hardy is expected to make a full and speedy recovery and will return to a full schedule later this week. He is also expected to be in Washington next week for votes in Congress.
The 59-year-old Hardy is running for re-election in Nevada's 4th Congressional District, which covers much of Southern Nevada, including parts of Las Vegas.
His opponent is Democratic state Sen. Ruben Kihuen, who emerged with a solid primary victory and has support from the powerful Culinary Union.
Hardy rose from roots in ranching and the construction industry and his allies hope his work ethic and down-to-earth style can pull him through a tough campaign.
