letters to the editor:

Trump’s silly mistakes a sign of potentially more serious ones

In addition to being vulgar and uniformed, Donald Trump is a laughably inarticulate speaker who does not have the sense to choose his words carefully so as to avoid making clumsy and ambiguous statements that rival what cartoon character Homer Simpson would say.

For example, on July 17, during a “60 Minutes” interview with Lesley Stahl on the subject of national security, Trump boasted that if he is elected president, “we’re going to have unbelievable intelligence ...”

D’oh! Because the most common dictionary definition of “unbelievable” is “difficult to believe” or “not worthy of belief,” Trump should have the sense to select a phrase like ”credible” or “reliable” intelligence rather than awkwardly stating that the intelligence will be “unbelievable.”

Then on Aug. 9, in an interview with Time Magazine regarding debates with Hillary Clinton, Trump declared, “I want to debate very badly, but I have to see the conditions.” D’oh! This begs the question: What conditions does Trump require to make sure he debates “very badly”?

The above gaffes only fortify what so many others have observed: If Trump becomes president, he will be prone to making clumsy, inarticulate and profoundly stupid remarks in public that will offend world leaders and place our country in significant peril.
