Attorney general says board violated open meeting law

CARSON CITY — Attorney General Adam Laxalt says the board of the Incline Village General Improvement District violated the open meeting law and failed to correct it.

Laxalt said the move to reorganize the board at North Lake Tahoe in August is void because of the violations.

There was no notice to the public about the plan to overhaul the board. And once informed there had been a violation of the open meeting law, the board merely ratified what it had done the previous month, officials said.

Senior Deputy Attorney General George Taylor said the action taken at the first and second meetings was void.

The Attorney General’s Office said the item must now be placed on the next agenda. It said “strict compliance with the requirements of the open meeting law is necessary.”
