Lightning-sparked fire does $200,000 damage to house

Lightning started a fire Sunday afternoon at a house at Las Vegas Country Club Estates that did about $200,000 damage, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

Fire crews responded about 2:50 p.m. to the two-story house at 1128 Pinehurst Drive, near East Desert Inn and South Maryland Parkway. Firefighters reported smoke and flames coming from the attic, officials said.

Crews extinguished the blaze just before 3:30 p.m. and stopped it from spreading to surrounding houses, officials said.

Nobody was home at the time, but firefighters rescued two cats from the house, officials said.

The fire was caused by lightning that hit a nearby tree, causing a fire that spread to the wood shake roof of the house, officials said.
