Metro Police: Stolen car chase led to shooting by officer

Police in Las Vegas say a veteran officer shot through the windshield of the unmarked car he was driving to wound a man running from a wrecked stolen car and pointing a gun at a motorcycle officer chasing him.

A police report made public Monday says Gilberto Gutierrez pointed a loaded handgun at the motorcycle officer, David Corbin, before turning with the gun toward the black Chevrolet Camaro with Officer Samuel Solorio inside.

Solorio fired at least two shots, wounding the 35-year-old Gutierrez on Jan. 26 in a neighborhood east of downtown Las Vegas.

The report says a police helicopter was overhead when Gutierrez crashed the stolen 1997 Honda Civic in front of a convenience store and ran.

Gutierrez is jailed on $77,000 bail pending a Feb. 16 court hearing.
