Police: Boy, 13, arrested in ‘put ’em in a coffin’ vandalism

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after he damaged a pickup truck by flopping onto the hood in an act that has become known via viral video as “put ’em in a coffin,” according to Henderson Police.

The stunt, which police called an act of vandalism, is a social media fad in which people flop onto the hood of a car, table or other object and cross their arms as if in a coffin.

In this case, a group of teens was walking down the 1400 block of Hawkwood Road, near Whitney Ranch and Galleria drives, on Jan. 27 when the 13-year-old flopped onto the hood of the pickup, damaging it, police said.

They then continued to vandalize the neighborhood by knocking over garbage cans and throwing fruit at homes, police said.

With the assistance of the victim and the Clark County School District, the boy was identified and arrested without incident, police said.

His name is not being released because of his age. He faces a gross misdemeanor count of damaging a vehicle, police said.

Two additional suspects may be involved in a string of recent vandalism in the same area, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Henderson Police at 702-267-4911 or 311. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or online at crimestoppersofnv.com. Tips directly leading to a felony arrest or indictment processed through Crime Stoppers may result in a cash reward.
