Two Henderson schools locked down after receiving threats

Two Henderson elementary schools were locked down this afternoon after receiving threats, according to Clark County School District Police.

Police responded about 1 p.m. to the incidents at Neil C. Twitchell and John C. Vanderburg elementary schools, which are next to each other near South Green Valley and Paseo Verde parkways.

School District Police Capt. Ken Young did not specify the nature of the threats but said they fit a pattern.

“This has been happening over the last month or so,” Young said. “It has been happening across the county where someone is sending threats to random schools.”

Calls typically come in to schools warning of bombs or shootings, Young said.

Both schools were locked down but remained in session, Young said. He didn’t provide details about how police responded but said each school has protocols for reacting to threats.

Young said the district has been working with law enforcement throughout the county and federal authorities to address the issue.
