Cable giant Cox Communications and KLAS-TV parent company Nexstar signed a new contract today to put the Las Vegas CBS affiliate back on the air.

Cox spokesman Juergen Barbusca and KLAS President Lisa Howfield confirmed the deal just before 1:40 p.m. Details of the agreement, which included 17 Nexstar stations from nine different markets, were not immediately available.

The deal comes nearly five days after KLAS-TV went dark on Cox on Jan. 29 and just three days before the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Cox, which services 48 percent of the Las Vegas viewing market and has more than 353,000 subscribers, announced Wednesday it would temporarily offer ESPN Deportes on its basic cable package so subscribers could watch the game in Spanish.

“It’s a relief not only for us, but for our viewers,” Howfield said. “We worked very hard on this negotiation and we realize it seemed like a long time.”

Barbusca said Cox was “sorry for the inconvenience these negotiations have caused our viewers, but we’re excited to be back on the air with KLAS-TV 8 and glad people can return to enjoying their programming.”
