A 2-year-old girl died Sunday after she was hit by a van in a North Las Vegas neighborhood, according to police.

The incident happened about 5:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of Thomas Avenue, near East Lake Mead Boulevard and North Pecos Road, North Las Vegas Police Officer Aaron Patty said. The child was hit by a white panel van that did not stop, he said.

The girl’s parents took her to North Vista Hospital, where she died, Patty said. She was identified as Evelyn Green of North Las Vegas.

Witnesses said that the girl may have been crossing the street, he said. There was no explanation of what the girl was doing in the street, and it was not clear whether anyone was watching her at the time.

The driver of the van was described as a Hispanic man in his mid-40s with facial hair, Patty said.
