GARDNERVILLE, Nev. — A 48-year-old former El Dorado County sheriff's deputy who worked on a drug task force at Lake Tahoe has pleaded guilty to one count of drug trafficking.
Douglas County sheriff's deputies arrested Mark Zlendick at his home southwest of Gardnerville last May after he was accused of stealing methamphetamine and cocaine from an evidence locker in South Lake Tahoe, California.
Zlendick could have faced up to life in prison and a $500,000 fine. But his lawyer, David Houston, told The (Gardnerville) Record-Courier that he agreed to a plea deal that drops additional charges and caps the prison sentence at 10 to 25 years.
He's scheduled to be sentenced in El Dorado District Court on April 11.
