Henderson Police make 12 DUI arrests during Super Bowl crackdown

Henderson Police officers arrested 12 drivers on DUI counts and handed out more than 250 tickets to motorists during an operation targeting impaired drivers over the Super Bowl weekend, officials said.

During the joint operation, Henderson and Metro Police officers used saturation patrols and DUI checkpoints to look for impaired drivers, officials said. The combined effort took place Jan. 22 to Feb. 8.

Henderson Police officers made 213 stops and issued 269 citations.

Officers issued 101 tickets for speeding and another six citations for running a red light, officials said. They also handed out 54 tickets for not having insurance, registration violations and driving on a revoked, suspended or expired driver’s license.

The Henderson Police Department received $200,400 in federal funding through the Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety for the 2016 Joining Forces program.

The grant provides funding for enforcement and education to reduce deaths and injuries on Nevada roadways. Enforcement events during the year will focus on pedestrian safety, seat belt use, speeding and distracted and impaired driving.
