Off-road vehicle driver facing DUI charge in bicyclist death

Authorities have identified a 58-year-old Las Vegas man killed during the weekend when his bicycle was struck by an allegedly drunk driver on an off-road recreational vehicle on a busy road in Henderson.

The Clark County coroner says Karl Frederick Vanderwyk died of multiple injuries in the 1:30 a.m. Sunday crash on Saint Rose Parkway near the M Resort east of Interstate 15.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel says Vanderwyk was struck from behind by a four-wheel Polaris RZR driven by 28-year-old Mark Obermeyer of Las Vegas.

Obermeyer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and taken to the Clark County jail pending a Tuesday court appearance.

He faces charges including driving under the influence causing death, using a suspended license and unregistered vehicle, and failure to yield to a bicycle.
