The motorcyclist killed in a five-vehicle crash Monday on State Route 160 has been identified as Heath Vanstone, 46, of Las Vegas.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol:

Vanstone was northbound on a silver-colored 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and attempted to pass a Honda CR-V. He entered the path of a southbound silver-colored 2015 Ford Edge, which struck Vanstone's motorcycle, ejecting him. The Edge rotated clockwise and entered the CR-V's path, and the driver of a red Harley-Davidson veered onto the paved shoulder and struck the CR-V's right side. The red motorcycle overturned, and the rider was ejected. The CR-V then struck the Edge, and a third motorcyclist, on a gray Harley-Davidson, slammed on the brakes to avoid the vehicles. That caused the third motorcycle to turn on its side, eject the rider and hit the CR-V.

The 50-year-old female driver of the Edge and a 78-year-old male passenger were taken to UMC Trauma with serious injuries. Another passenger in the Edge, a 77-year-old woman, was taken to UMC Trauma with critical injuries. The 49-year-old male rider of the gray motorcycle was taken to UMC Trauma with serious injuries.

The 44-year-old driver of the red motorcycle, as well as the 34-year-old female driver and 30-year-old male passenger of the CR-V, were not hospitalized.

The crash, which was reported about 5:50 p.m. about 3 miles east of Mountain Springs Pass, closed the highway to Pahrump for several hours.
