Junior high students at three Las Vegas schools launch anti-bullying campaigns

Students at Greenspun Junior High today became the latest to unveil their plan to end bullying, joining two other middle schools around the valley where students have launched similar efforts.

The campaigns, sponsored by R&R Partners as part of an anti-bullying effort called Flip the Script, challenged students to develop ways to spread awareness around their school.

The students came up with posters, shirts and wristbands to pass out around school as well as a social media campaign to engage their peers.

Flip the Script has been around since 2010 in the form of an advertising campaign, said R&R partner and principal Jim King, but this year the firm tried something different.

“We decided that we wanted to approach the issue on more of a ground level,” he said. “We wanted a campaign that was student-created and student-led.”

In drawing up each campaign, R&R staff met with students directly to find out what they thought about the issue.

“They opened up much more that we thought they would,” King said. “They wanted to remind other kids that bullying creates an unsafe environment and that it’s distracting.”

The campaigns will last all year at three middle schools — Greenspun, Becker and Fremont. After that, R&R plans to choose three new schools to participate next year.
