The Clark County Clerk’s Marriage License Bureau and the local business community helped make New Year's Eve extra special for two Phoenix residents Thursday.

Ronald Bauman and Dumitru Alexeev were the recipients of the 5,000th same-sex marriage license issued in Clark County since the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed the legality of same-sex marriage in Nevada last year, according to the county.

The Marriage License Bureau started issuing licenses to same-sex couples Oct. 9, 2014.

Bauman and Alexeev plan to marry Friday in Las Vegas, the county said.

The Arizona couple were offered a number of gifts by local businesses to mark the occasion including a basic wedding package at Luxor Wedding Chapel, stays at Circus Circus Las Vegas and Mandalay Bay, tickets to the "Michael Jackson One" show and to the High Roller.

“This is a wonderful milestone to celebrate as we ring in a new year,” County Clerk Lynn Goya said in a statement. “Las Vegas is the best place in the world to get married, and we extend our happy congratulations to Ronald Bauman and Dumitru Alexeev on being the 5,000th same-sex couple to receive their marriage license in Clark County.”

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the bureau had issued 81,174 marriage licenses total this year, compared with 80,738 last year.
