Forecast calls for rain in the valley, snow in the mountains

Rain showers are in the forecast for the rest of the work week in Las Vegas, the result of a winter storm system expected to bring up to a foot of snow to Mount Charleston over the next couple days, according to the National Weather Service.

The skies today have been overcast, with light rain showers across the valley. There will be a 50 percent chance of rain Tuesday afternoon, increasing to 70 percent in the evening, meteorologist Chris Outler said.

“There’s not a day this week that we can say there will be no rain at all for sure,” Outler said. “There won’t be a totally dry day until Saturday.”

Mount Charleston, meanwhile, is expected to get a couple inches of snow today, with 6 to 10 inches Tuesday between 5,500 and 7,000 feet, Outler said.
