Former Assemblyman Pat Hickey named to state Board of Education

CARSON CITY — Former Nevada Assemblyman Pat Hickey of Reno, who decided not to run for re-election, was named to the state Board of Education today, succeeding the late Dave Cook of Carson City.

Hickey, a Republican, resigned from the Legislature to take the post. Gov. Brian Sandoval made the appointment.

The governor also reappointed Teri Jamin, a member of the Douglas County School Board, as a nonvoting member to the education board.

Allison Stephens, a member of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents from Las Vegas, succeeds Regent Kevin Melcher as a nonvoting member to represent the regents.

The terms of Jamin and Stephens will end Jan. 1, 2018.

Hickey will serve until Jan. 1, 2017, and can run for election in November
