High School Basketball:

Gorman’s Collins selected for McDonald’s All-American game

Sun Super 7

Christopher DeVargas

Zach Collins, Bishop Gorman, for Las Vegas Sun’s Super Seven, Nov, 12. 2015.

Last season, Zach Collins wasn’t a starter. This season, the Bishop Gorman High center is a McDonald’s All-American.

Last season, of course, Collins was behind two McDonald’s All-Americans at Gorman in Chase Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman Jr. This year, with Jeter and Zimmerman in college, he’s thrived in the starting lineup, averaging 18 points and 14 rebounds per game.

The 6 foot 11, 230-pound Collins, who will play in college at Gonzaga, is the fourth Gorman player in five seasons to be selected for the McDonald’s game. Shabazz Muhammad played in 2012.

The game, which features the top 24 players in the nation, is March 30 at the United Center in Chicago.
