Inmate, 58, dies at prison in Northern Nevada

An inmate at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City died this afternoon, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Gary Wayne Lewellin, 58, was at the Regional Medical Facility at the correctional center when he died about 3 p.m., according to a corrections department news release.

He was serving 56 months to 25 years on burglary and robbery charges, the release said.

Lewellin was one of two men accused in the armed robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Reno in February 2010, according to KOLO-TV in Reno.

He entered corrections department custody April 7, 2010, from Washoe County, the release said.

Lewellin had prior felonies on his record, according to the department of corrections inmate search.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office coroner, the release said.
