Multistate police pursuit ends outside Las Vegas

A multistate police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended about 20 miles outside Las Vegas early this morning, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety requested help just before 1 a.m. as it pursued a stolen Toyota SUV in the northwestern part of the state, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelsea Stuenkel said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Utah then followed the suspect on southbound I-15 into Clark County, requesting help from the Nevada Highway Patrol and asking for spike strips to be placed in the SUV’s path, Stuenkel said.

The SUV ran over the spikes about 1:20 a.m., about four miles north of Love’s Travel Stop near U.S. 93, and continued for a few more miles, she said.

The vehicle exited near the truck stop, and police took the driver into custody about 1:30 a.m., Stuenkel said.

Further details on the driver were not immediately available.
