Official in state Treasurer’s Office running for Assembly

CARSON CITY — Al Kramer, investment deputy for state Treasurer Dan Schwartz for the past year, said today he would run for Assembly in District 40, which includes Carson City and parts of Washoe County.

Kramer, 67, served as elected Carson City treasurer for 20 years. He will end his state job Jan. 31 to challenge fellow Republican Philip “P.K.” O’Neil, who is completing his first term.

In his present job, Kramer developed a system that will earn the state an additional $1 million a year on its investments.

Kramer said the state doesn’t need any new taxes and the Commerce Tax enacted by the 2015 Legislature is a “step in the wrong direction.”

Nevada must become a more “business friendly state” which “means we need an affordable university and community college system where the average Nevadan can prepare for jobs with Tesla and other employers coming to the state,” he said.
