Lawyer announces bid for state Senate seat in Washoe County

Lawyer Devon Reese will run as the Democratic candidate for state Senate District 15 in Washoe County against former Republican Assemblywoman Heidi Gansert.

Reese announced his candidacy in a tweet today, quickly followed by an endorsement from the Nevada Senate Democrats and Senate Minority Leader Aaron Ford. Senate District 15 includes parts of western Reno and Washoe County.

“Devon understands the challenges that ordinary Nevadans face because fighting for working men and women is the centerpiece of his legal career,” Ford said in a statement. “His deep ties to Reno and Washoe County will make him an excellent advocate for the people of Senate District 15.”

In his law practice, Reese focuses in litigation, labor and employment issues. He is a native Nevadan who grew up in his district.

“We need legislators who understand what Nevadans from all walks of life are going through,” Reese said in a statement. “As a parent with three kids in the Washoe County School District, a businessman, and an advocate for working families, I believe that I can bring people together to build consensus around creating economic and educational opportunities for everyone.”

Incumbent Republican Sen. Greg Brower announced in September that he would not seek re-election to the seat, after which Gansert quickly announced her candidacy. Brothel owner Dennis Hof also is running as a Libertarian.
