UNLV loses to San Diego State

UNLV head coach Tony Sanchez has some unpleasant words for a player after a poor decision on the field versus San Diego State during their game at Sam Boyd Stadium on Friday, November 21, 2015.

UNLV football coach Tony Sanchez added to his recruiting coups this afternoon with potentially his biggest one yet.

Dual-threat quarterback Armani Rogers from Los Angeles committed to the Rebels, announcing his intentions through Twitter.

“After a long consideration with my family, I’ve decided to further my education and football career at University of Nevada Las Vegas,” Rogers wrote on a note posted to his account. “Go Reb.”

Five Pac-12 schools had offered Rogers scholarships, according to Rivals.com, including California, where he had committed on a junior-day visit in February. Rogers threw for 18 touchdowns to 1 interception while completing 64 percent his passes, per Rivals, during his senior season at Hamilton High.

He also rushed for 431 yards and six touchdowns on 71 attempts. Rivals listed Rogers as a three-star recruit, while ESPN graded him higher with four stars and as the No. 44 overall player in California.

Sanchez has assembled what Rivals rates as the second-best recruiting class in the Mountain West Conference — behind Boise State — ahead of Tuesday’s national signing day. Rogers is the second quarterback picked up by UNLV, joining junior college transfer and former Nebraska signal caller Johnny Stanton.
