Girl, 3, is second child to drown at July Fourth parties

A 3-year-old girl has died after she was pulled unresponsive from the bottom of a backyard pool during a Fourth of July party in North Las Vegas, according to police.

The child was was pulled from the pool about 8 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of Spottswood Avenue, near Tropical Parkway and Bruce Street, North Las Vegas Police said. She was taken to University Medical Center in extremely critical condition and died this morning, police said.

A number of people were swimming in the pool at the time, police said. The incident remains under investigation.

It was the second case of a child drowning during a July Fourth party. A 6-year-old child died during a pool party Monday night near Torrey Pines Drive and Smoke Ranch Road, according to Metro police.
