letters to the editor:

We’re all the same inside; celebrate what makes you unique

Trying hopelessly to make sense of this year, I came to a conclusion.

It didn’t start in Newtown, Conn., and it didn’t end in Dallas, with all the violent murders. It has spilled over into our politics, with hate speech going unchecked. Just when did it become OK to yell, “Fire,” in a (world) theater? We need to curb violent hate speech, Mr. Trump.

But that is not my conclusion.

When a doctor cuts into any of us, he sees the same kind of intestines. Kidneys, heart and lungs all look the same internally. The only thing that differentiates us from one another is our wrapper. We are all one. When one hurts, we all hurt. If we could celebrate our differences, we all would be happier.

I love the fact that I can eat French food one day, Chinese another, Japanese another, Mexican another, Middle Eastern another, and then there are all the American brands. It is all good. Celebrate our differences!

This is my conclusion: Be proud of your wrapper. It is what makes one unique. Each one of you is precious; never forget that.
