Police Shooting After Pursuit

Metro Police officers take shelter from the rain at the scene of an officer-involved shooting near Pecos and Alexander roads Aug. 3, 2014.

Amid the shooting in Baton Rouge that left three officers dead Sunday morning, Henderson and Metro Police announced that their officers will be doubling up on patrols as a safety precaution.

Although there have not been any reports of threats to local officers, Henderson Police Chief Patrick Moers ordered that all patrols and responses to calls for service — no matter the level of crime priority — to be done by pairs as a precaution, authorities said. Calls for service will be prioritized by the severity of the emergency.

“We extend our thoughts and prayers to the Baton Rouge community and police force,” Moers said. “In Henderson, we must all come together to help prevent any tragedies.”

Henderson Police will continue to monitor the incident in Baton Rouge and other cities to evaluate the continuing need for two-officer units in the coming days, police said.

Five officers were shot dead during a Black Lives Matter protest in downtown Dallas on July 7, which prompted Metro, Henderson and North Las Vegas police departments to double up officers for an undetermined number of days.
