CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval is attending a memorial service in Winnemucca today for two firefighters killed when their fire truck overturned July 10.
The governor ordered state flags to fly at half staff in memory of Bureau of Land Management firefighters Will Hawkins, 22, and Jacob O’Malley, 27.
They were returning from a routine patrol looking for range fires in the Denio area when their vehicle overturned. A third man in the vehicle, Zachery McElroy, 23, was treated for injuries at a Reno hospital.
A tire blow-out apparently caused their fire truck to roll over several times, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
