Scooter rider dies after being hit by two cars near Russell, Flamingo

A man is dead after a hit-and-run involving two vehicles and a scooter near Russell and Flamingo roads in which one person faces DUI charges.

A man, described as being 40 to 50 years old, was riding a 2014 Tao Tao Scooter west on Russell Road near Redwood Street about 10:30 p.m. when a 2007 Toyota Sequoia traveling behind him struck his scooter, Metro Police said.

The man and the scooter were pushed more than 175 feet westward before he fell off and came to rest on the roadway, police said. He was then hit by what witnesses say was possibly a Nissan Sentra that fled the scene without stopping.

The scooter rider was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.

The driver of the Toyota, Adrian Arriaga-Andrade, 19, failed sobriety tests and was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of driving under the influence, police said. Arriaga-Andrade and two passengers in the Toyota, ages 18 and 20, did not receive any injuries in the collision.

This is the 57th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year. The collision remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metro’s Accident Investigation section at 702-828-3786 or, to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
