Woman suffers life-threatening burns in kitchen fire

A woman suffered life-threatening burns in a kitchen fire early this morning, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue officials.

The fire was reported about 5:45 a.m. at 1009 Marion Drive, near Washington Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, officials said.

Flames coming from the front door and windows of the one-story home prompted multiple 911 calls, fire department spokesman Timothy Szymanski said.

When firefighters arrived, a woman was coming out of the front door with flames at her back, Szymanski said. She was taken to the University Medical Center.

Another resident was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation, Szymanski said.

The fire was extinguished in less than 10 minutes, and damage was estimated at $35,000, he said. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
