Woman killed in rollover crash near Red Rock Canyon

A woman was killed and another injured early this morning in a rollover crash near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened about 2:30 a.m. on State Route 159 at Calico Basin Road, about a quarter mile from the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center, Trooper Jason Buratczuk said. A Chevy Tahoe ran off the road and rolled, he said.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene, Buratczuk said.

A passenger wearing a seat belt suffered severe leg injuries and was taken to University Medical Center, he said.

Both women were in their 20s, Buratczuk said.

The crash, which resulted in the 38th traffic fatality this year in the patrol’s jurisdiction, is under investigation.
