A Desert Pines High School teacher has been accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a female student, according to Clark County School District Police. He was arrested on Wednesday, according to jail logs.

Jonathan Scheaffer, 23, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on 16 counts of a sexual act between a school employee and a pupil 16 to 17 years old, according to district police Lt. Darnell Couthen.

Scheaffer was hired at Desert Pines High School in 2014, school district spokeswoman Michelle Booth said. In mid-May, he put in a resignation effective today.

According to the school’s website, Scheaffer was a science teacher.

Bail for Scheaffer was set at $80,000 — or $5,000 on each count, according to the detention center records.
