CARSON CITY — A 65-year-old former homeless man once featured on television's "America's Most Wanted" before his conviction in the strangulation of a woman at a low-budget Las Vegas motel has died behind bars.

The Nevada Department of Corrections didn't immediately disclose the cause of Ronald Lennon's death Monday at High Desert State Prison outside Las Vegas.

An autopsy was scheduled.

Lennon was serving 40-years-to-life in prison after being found guilty in 2006 in Clark County of killing and robbing 69-year-old Mary Louise Moore.

The former legal secretary from California was found dead in 2003 with a curtain cord and her shoelaces around her neck. Her Social Security money was missing.

Police say Lennon took a bus that night to Salt Lake City.

He surrendered in February 2005 to police in Troy, Alabama.
