A Mack Middle School teacher's assistant accused of inappropriately touching a special-needs student is facing additional charges after a court appearance today, records show.
Fausto Barraza-Balcazar, 59, was arrested Monday by Clark County School District police and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of lewdness with a child under 14, jail logs show.
The number has since increased to four, records show. The court appointed a public defender today.
Police said a teacher reported an incident in which she caught Barraza-Balcazar pressed against the backside of the 13-year-old autistic student, who reportedly has the mental capacity of a 5 year old, in a laundry room, according to a CCSD police arrest report.
Also according to the report:
In an interview with an investigator from the Southern Nevada Child Assessment Center, the girl said that “Mr. B” had touched her.
The girl pointed to where she said Barraza-Balcazar touched her. She didn’t say if her clothes were taken off, and a sexual abuse and assault scan from Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center came back negative.
Barraza-Balcazar has been employed with the Clark County School District since March 2013, School District spokeswoman Michelle Booth said.
