1 of 2 escaped inmates is captured in Reno

One of two men who escaped from a Northern Nevada conservation camp on Sunday was found and taken back into custody on Monday, authorities said.

Nico Donavan Way, 25, was found sleeping near a local business in Reno, the Nevada Department of Corrections said in a release. A man who found Way called police, and he was arrested and moved to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City.

Way, who was originally serving a yearlong sentence for attempted burglary, escaped with fellow inmate James Westbrook, 23, from Humboldt Conservation Camp, about 66 miles northeast of Lovelock, officials said.

Westbrook, who is serving 16 to 72 months for burglary and for being under the influence of a controlled substance, was still at large as of Monday night, the release said. He is described as “medium-built," 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with hazel eyes, brown hair, and the word “Jay” tattooed on his right forearm. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt with a blue button-down shirt and white sneakers.

The department encourages anyone with information on the whereabouts of Westbrook to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.
