Reported explosion turns out to be backfiring van

A reported explosion that temporarily shut down a Henderson pharmacy and surrounding streets turned out to be a backfiring van, police said.

Henderson Police said a call came in at 9:15 a.m. of an explosion in a white van in the parking lot of the CVS Pharmacy at Sunset Road and Whitney Ranch Drive.

Officers found the smoking van, but could not locate the owner, police said. As a precaution, the pharmacy was closed and people were instructed to stay inside the store, police said.

The intersection also was closed, according to police.

The van’s owner was eventually located and told officers the vehicle had backfired, blowing up the muffler and causing the smoke, police said.

The pharmacy and streets were reopened about 9:45 a.m. police said.
