Report: UNLV’s McCaw agrees to 2-year guaranteed contract with Golden State

UNLV Edges Out San Jose State

UNLV guard Patrick McCaw (22) splits the double team of San Jose State forward Frank Rogers (14) and San Jose State guard Princeton Onwas (23) and at the Thomas & Mack Center on Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

Second-round selections in the NBA Draft usually don’t receive a guaranteed contract and rarely make the opening night roster.

UNLV’s Pat McCaw appears to be different.

Multiple Bay Area media outlets are reporting today that McCaw has agreed on a two-year guaranteed contract with the Golden State Warriors, a mere 12 hours after they sent the Milwaukee Bucks $2.4 million in cash considerations to acquire him with the draft’s 38th overall pick last night.

Bob Myers, the Golden State general manager, told reporters last night his organization had McCaw rated much higher than a second round selection. The 6-foot-7 guard averaged 14.7 points and 5.2 rebounds last season with the Rebels..

“If you told us in the middle of the year we’d get (McCaw), we’d be thrilled,” Myers said.

Hoop Rumors reports McCaw would make the minimum salary of $543,471 in next season and $905,249 in 2017-18.

Golden State’s Splash Brothers backcourt of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson is one of the best in the league, but reserves Brandon Rush and Leandro Barbosa likely won’t return to open a spot for McCaw in the rotation of the Western Conference champions.
