U.S. Forest Service officials and the Clark County Fire Department are helping fight a 200-acre wildfire at Lovell Canyon Road and State Route 160, about an hour away from Las Vegas.

No structures are in danger at this time.

According to the Forest Service, the Lovell Fire is in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Spring Mountain National Recreation Area.

The fire started about noon, when it was reported to be burning 6-7 acres, Metro Police Lt. Jeff Goodwin said. As of 4:30 p.m., the Forest Service put the acreage at 80. By 6 p.m., it had grown to 200 acres, the Forest Service posted on its Facebook.

Metro Police are assisting with road closures in the area, which includes Lovell Road.

Six engines are being used to fight the blaze, in addition to six air tankers, a helicopter and a large airplane, which are dropping water on the fire.

Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire.

The Lovell Fire is the second fire in the recreation area in the past four days, according to an incident website. The Mud Springs Fire started June 23 and has been contained.
