Henderson apartment fire displaces 12 people

Twelve people and two pets were displaced by a fire Saturday evening at a Henderson apartment building. No one was injured.

Firefighters responded shortly after 11 p.m. to 1100 Center Street, near Warm Springs Parkway, according to the Henderson Fire Department. A resident who lived at the 12-unit apartment building reported a fire on his porch. He was able to safely leave the residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire coming from a second-floor unit of the two-story apartment building, officials said. The fire was confined to the resident's apartment.

The American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
