CARSON CITY — Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta says she plans to retire in August before her six-year term is up.

Saitta wrote to Gov. Brian Sandoval last week saying she was ready to move on to her next chapter after 10 years on the state's highest court. Her retirement is effective Aug. 8.

Saitta's term was set to expire in 2019. She said she plans to serve as a senior judge, where she can work as a substitute when other judges are absent.

Gov. Brian Sandoval thanked her for her work and said the Commission on Judicial Selection will screen applicants before he appoints her replacement.

Saitta had previously served as chief justice of the high court and was a senior deputy attorney general before becoming a district court judge.
