Finally, happiness is here. Las Vegas officially has a major sports team. On June 22, the NHL awarded Las Vegas the next expansion team. Hockey is coming to the desert.
Having a major sports team will bring unity, excitement and chatter to an otherwise unenthusiastic sports town. Until now, UNLV sports have been the talk of the town. Sure, we have a AAA minor league baseball team, but how many people do you know who actually go see and/or pay attention to them? Not many I’d guess.
Hockey will be a major selling point for future residents of this city. Families can start traditions. People will have a major team to follow and of which to be proud. Hockey will not only have a huge financial impact, it also will have a positive impact on lives — kids in particular. Kids will be able to follow their favorite players and hockey rinks will pop up around town, helping getting kids off the streets and into the rinks. Thank you, NHL, for giving Las Vegas something to hang its hats on and of which to be proud.
