Project Neon, the largest construction project in state history, is expected to improve the flow of traffic along the Spaghetti Bowl, where Interstate 15, U.S. 95 and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard intersect.

The heaviest phases of construction on Project Neon won’t happen for a while yet, but motorists now have a new way of keeping track of workers’ progress.

The Nevada Department of Transportation on Monday added an interactive map to its Project Neon website that offers up-to-the-hour information on active and upcoming construction work, traffic delays, detours and lane restrictions.

The color-coded map features icons that can be clicked for information on activity at work sites. On Monday afternoon, the map showed six sites where ramps, lanes and surface streets will be closed or restricted today through Thursday. Below the map are lists of upcoming projects affecting surface streets, U.S. 95 and Interstate 15.

Work on the $1.5 billion, 3.7-mile project got underway in April. In addition to reconfiguring the Spaghetti Bowl, workers will make improvements to I-15 between the Spaghetti Bowl and Sahara Avenue. Among the major additions: elevated through-lanes for high-occupancy vehicles in the middle of I-15, a new flyover bridge connecting those lanes to U.S. 95 and a high-occupancy vehicle interchange.

Although work has begun, commuters aren’t likely to start seeing major effects of the construction until November, when the two-lane flyover route connecting northbound I-15 to northbound U.S. 95 is scheduled to be shut down. The first lane closures of U.S. 95 aren’t scheduled until the first quarter of 2017.

In addition to the site, NDOT is offering information about the project through its Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages as well as through a hotline: 702-293-NEON (6366).
