The Clark County Commission today raised the maximum fines for parking violations at county airports, including McCarran International Airport.

Some of the parking rules only pertain to commercial vehicles, such as taxis, limousines and ride-hailing vehicles, but others apply to private cars, McCarran spokesman Chris Jones said.

The fines can now be as high as $200 or $300 for various offenses — up from $155. They’ll be even steeper if not paid within 30 days.

The ordinance change also establishes a fee structure for repeat offenders, with fines as high as $1,800 for drivers who receive multiple citations in a 12-month period.

Airport officials hope the increased fines deter motorists — including but not limited to Uber and Lyft drivers — from repeatedly violating parking rules, Jones said. The fines had not been increased since 2002.

Last year, McCarran officials issued 5,907 parking-related tickets, he said.
