Fire guts vacant home near MLK Boulevard

A fire broke out at a boarded up house near Martin Luther King and Lake Mead boulevards, according to Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.

Firefighters responded just before 5 p.m. to the one-story wood frame house at 844 Hart Ave., the department said.

Upon arrival, heavy smoke and flames were coming from the house, the department said. Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control in less than 10 minutes. No other houses in the area were damaged.

The blaze gutted the inside of the house, the department said. A cost estimate on the damage from the fire was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Neighbors reported that squatters were seen going in and out of the house.

No injuries were reported.
